DAY OF THE DEAD / ALL SOUL'S DAY / DIA DE LOST MUERTOS is observed with family visits to the cemetery to remember loved ones and Celebrate their existance! Not as big in CR as in Mexico.

OX CART PARADE - DESAMPARADOS - An ox cart parade 80 boyeros strong (the Ox Cart symbolizes peace, work, humility, patience, sacrifice and a consistency in an effort to reach the end. LOCATION: Frailes de Desamparados

FESTIVAL DE CUENTA CUENTOS (Storytellers' Festival in Spanish) - ATENAS - International storytellers, as well as a group from Atenas, will delight their audiences with their stories. LOCATION: at the Escuela Central.

LA RUTA DE LOS CONQUISTADORES BIKE RACE - JACO TO BONITA BEACH - This is considered THE TOUGHEST MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE ON THE PLANET - stretching from the Pacific Coast clear to the Caribbean/Atlantic Coast - starting in Jaco Beach, along the Pacific Coast, Carara Nature Reserve, down into the Turrabares Valley, up the Irazu Volcano (11,259 feet!), through the Orosi Valley, around Turrialba Volcano to the Caribbean beach of Playa Bonita! COFFEE PICKING CONTEST - Music and dancing. CENTRAL VALLEY


FIESTA DE LA PICA DE LENA (Celebration of the Spike of the Woodcutter) - Traditional Woodcutter’s Celebration. Oxcart parades, competition, food, music, etc.


MONTEZUMA’S INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - 5 days of free film screenings, lectures, art exhibitions and live music cause a gentle cultural stir in the small and superbly laid-back town.
