Kids are off school from around the 19th of Dec. till the 2nd week of Feb. so there are LOTS of programs set up for kids!! Especially at various Museums!!

CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL - SAN JOSE There is a chocolate celebration taking place at the Centro Nacional de Arte y Cultura Saturday, and events featuring music, movies, and many of the ways to eat one of the worlds favorite treats are to take place between 4-8pm Chocola-Ticos welcome in the new year with music and videos about chocolate, accompanied by a big chocolate fondue with fruit and hot chocolate for a beverage At 7pm there will be a showing of the French film

CELEBRATIONS OF CRISTO NEGRO of ESQUIPULAS (the Black Christ and a famous Guatemalan statue/church/town near the boarder of El Salvador celebrating Christ’s Healing powers. The color some say is not about his skin being black but because it’s about a statue that depicts his crucifixion so the darkness is dried blood)

PILGRIMAGE/PROCESSION - ALAJUELITA - A couple thousand people are expected to join in a PILGRIMAGE/PROCESSION with miracles they’re asking for to a huge illuminated cross on the mountain top for followed by a solemn mass (10am) honoring Alajuelita's Patron Saint. SANTA CRUZ, Guanacaste - 6 days of Folk dancing, marimbas bands, bullfighting and a Horse Parade on the 19th +.
